Whether you are taking a trip to the beach this summer, or just trying to survive the summer heat, having a fabulous TBR pile ready to go is essential! I love reading books with Summer settings during the Summer. It just adds to my overall vacay vibe! My favorite Summer authors are Elin Hilderbrand (Nantucket), Kristy Woodson Harvey (Georgia/Carolinas), and Carley Fortune (Various locations). You truly can't go wrong with any of their books. Here are some of my favorites (in no particular order)!

1

Just for the Summer

By: Abby Jimenez

This is a fiction book about a girl and a guy that meet online. They start dating because they both have a curse that causes the people they break up with to find "the one", right after they break up. Their theory is, that since they both have the curse, when they break up, they will both find "the one". They have a fun relationship with each other, all while dealing with other family issues. It scored a 4/5 on the language scale.

This Summer will be Different

By: Carley Fortune

This author does a fantastic job of writing those predictable, but really enjoyable, fiction romance books. Even though you know what's coming, it still sucks you in and you love to read about how it all happens. At the beginning of the book, Lucy travels to Prince Edward Island to visit her roommate's family. Her roommate ends up missing her flight, so Lucy has to figure out plans on her own. She ends up connecting with a guy, and doesn't find out until the next morning that it is her roommate's brother, whom her roommate specifically told her she wasn't allowed to fall in love with. The story then continues to flip back and forth between present day and the last 5 years. It is pretty spicy, but it is a great read! It gets a 4/5 on the language scale.

Every Summer After

By: Carley Fortune

This website is called FIVE must reads, but if I could only choose one book to recommend to you, this is the one that I would choose. I almost didn't put this one on the list, because it was released in 2022. However, on the off chance that some of you haven't read it, I had to put it, because the sequel One Golden Summer just came out on May 6th! Every Summer After is a dual timeline book about a girl named Percy and a boy named Sam. This book flashes back and forth between present day (when Percy comes back to the lake for Sam's mom's funeral), and 12 years prior, when something happens to drive them apart. This book is "cannot put it down" good. This is a 3/5 on the language scale.

4

Under the Southern Sky

By Kristy Woodson Harvey

The main character, Amelia Saxton, is a journalist who accidentally discovers that some embryos belonging to her friend Parker have been deemed "abandoned". We find out that Parker lost his wife Greer, three years prior, and now Amelia has to be the bearer of bad news that he has to either use the embryos, and become a single dad, or lose his last piece of Greer forever. Even though this book is about a deeply personal topic, this book has just the right mix of mystery, sadness, romance, and even a little bit of fun. (I read this in 2021, which is before I started doing my language ratings. However, this author is typically around a 1 or a 2 on the language scale.)

5

Summer of '69

By Elin Hilderbrand

If you haven't ever read any of Elin's books, this one is definitely not a reflection of her typical vibe. However, I loved this one! This book is set on Nantucket, just like most of her other books, but instead of being present day, it is set during the summer of 1969. This story follows the four Levin siblings, who are all facing this historical summer in their own way. Blaire is stuck in Boston, pregnant with twins. Kirby is a Civil Rights Protestor who takes a summer job on Martha's Vineyard. Tiger has been recently deployed to Vietnam for the War. Finally the youngest sister, Jessie, is stuck at home on Nantucket with her mother and grandmother. This book is so interesting because you follow each storyline, while also learning about Historical events that were taking place that summer. (I read this one in 2020, but I am fairly certain the language rating would be a 1 or a 2). I also highly recommend Elin's Nantucket series, which starts with this book. Or her series set in the Virgin Islands which starts with this book. Or lastly, her book 28 Summers is fantastic as well!

Bonus

The Peachtree Bluff Series

By Kristy Woodson Harvey

I have many more recommendations other than these 5, so I decided to do a bonus! This series is set in Georgia and is the perfect binge-read. I personally recommend going ahead and buying this set of all 4 books, but if you want to just get the first one, it is called Slightly South of Simple, and you can purchase it here. Ansley is an interior designer that owns her own business in the town of Peachtree Bluff. She has three grown daughters that have their own, very busy lives. In the first few chapters of the book each daughter ends up coming home for various reasons. The first book flips back and forth between Ansley and her oldest daughter, Caroline. The second book follows Ansley and her second daughter, Sloane. The third book follows Ansley and her third daughter, Emerson. This book has some very unexpected family secrets, lots of romance, and it is just so well written and fabulous. This is a 1 out of 5 on the Language Rating Scale.

I hope you enjoy some of these Summer reads! If you need more recs-I've got them. Just message me below and I'll send them your way. Happy reading!
